Super Arrow Non Repaint Alert Indicator: EMA Cross Plus RSI

Written by Dominic Walsh · Published · Last updated

The super arrow non repaint alert indicator marks one event: a fast average crossing a slow one with momentum agreeing. Every check runs on the most recently closed bar rather than the forming one. Super BUY and Super SELL mark those bars and then stay put.

This build ships as a compiled .ex4 for MT4 and .ex5 for MT5; the screenshots below come from EURUSD H1.

What the Super arrow non repaint alert Indicator renders

Super BUY sits under the low of a bar where the fast average crossed above the slow one with RSI agreeing.

Super SELL sits above the high on the mirror case.

This build plots neither average. Only the markers appear on the chart.

  • Super BUY: arrow, dodger blue, width 3, arrow code 233
  • Super SELL: arrow, crimson, width 3, arrow code 234

What the build works out

The cross

Four average readings get taken: the fast and slow lengths on the signal bar and on the bar before it. A cross needs the fast one to move from at or below the slow one to above it.

The pair defaults to a length of 8 against one of 21, which makes this a short term cross rather than a trend filter.

The momentum check

An RSI reading over RsiPeriod has to sit on the right side of a threshold. A buy needs it above RsiBuyMin and a sell needs it below RsiSellMax, both defaulting to 50.

At a seven bar length that reading turns quickly, so the check removes crosses happening against very recent momentum rather than against the wider trend.

Why it cannot repaint

Every reading comes from the most recently closed bar rather than the forming one. The forming bar never gets evaluated at all.

Once a marker prints, the bar behind it has already finished, so nothing afterwards can change the values underneath it. ArrowOffsetATR then spaces the marker by a fraction of ATR.

What the states mean

A marker appears one bar after the setup, because the setup bar has to close first.

Marker spacing scales with ATR, so it stays sensible whether the market is quiet or fast.

This build draws neither average, so you take the cross on trust or load them separately.

Both thresholds sit at 50, which is the midpoint rather than an extreme.

Alert channels in this build: popup, push notification, email and sound, one message per closed bar.

Alerts cover popup, push, email and sound. A bar time check keeps it to one alert per closed bar.

Core settings

Setting What it does Default
FastPeriod Fast EMA period. FastPeriod is the quick average length, eight bars out of the box. 8
SlowPeriod Slow EMA period. SlowPeriod is the slower one at 21. The gap between the two decides how often crosses happen. 21
RsiPeriod RSI confirmation period. RsiPeriod is the momentum lookback, 7 by default, which is short and reacts quickly. 7
RsiBuyMin BUY requires RSI >= this (loose default). RsiBuyMin is the floor a buy needs the reading to clear, 50 by default. 50
RsiSellMax SELL requires RSI <= this (loose default). RsiSellMax is the matching ceiling for a sell, also 50. 50

Display settings

Setting What it does Default
ArrowOffsetATR Arrow offset as multiple of ATR(14). ArrowOffsetATR spaces a marker from its candle as a fraction of ATR, 0.5 by default. 0.5

Matching chart to settings

The screenshot uses EURUSD H1. An 8 and 21 cross is a short term pairing that suits intraday charts where those averages actually separate. On H4 and daily the crosses become rare and each one covers a lot of ground. On M5 they come constantly and a seven bar momentum check filters very few of them.

What it will not tell you

A midpoint threshold is a weak filter. An RSI above 50 only says the recent balance leaned up, which is usually already true when a fast average crosses above a slow one.

This build plots neither average, so you cannot see how close the cross came or whether the two are converging again.

Waiting for the close means the marker arrives one bar after the event it describes.

Two short lengths crossing produces plenty of signals in a range, and nothing here measures whether the market is trending.

FAQ

Why can a Super BUY marker never be revised?

Every reading comes from the most recently closed bar, never the forming one. By the time a marker prints, the bar it describes has finished and its values can no longer change. Nothing on the current candle can revise a marker that already appeared.

Is RsiBuyMin at 50 a useful filter?

It is a weak one, and worth knowing that. Fifty is the midpoint rather than an extreme, and when a fast average crosses above a slow one the reading is usually already above it. Raising RsiBuyMin towards 55 or 60 makes the check do real work.

Why is the EMA cross not drawn on the chart?

This build declares two plots and both are markers. The averages exist inside the calculation only. If you want to see the cross that produced a marker, load a separate moving average at FastPeriod and SlowPeriod alongside it.

How far from the candle does ArrowOffsetATR 0.5 put a marker?

Half the current ATR reading. On a quiet hour that is a small gap and during a volatile session it grows, which keeps the spacing readable across markets. A fixed point offset would crowd the candles on one symbol and float away on another.

Are results guaranteed?

No. Trading involves risk. Results are not guaranteed; past performance is not indicative of future results. Use the Super arrow non repaint alert Indicator as one input. Always backtest before trading live.
