RSI vs Stochastic: Which Oscillator Reads Price Better

An oscillator turns raw price into a bounded number between 0 and 100. That number rises as buyers press and falls as sellers take over. So both tools try to answer the same question: is this move stretched?

The Relative Strength Index, or RSI, measures momentum. It compares the size of recent gains to recent losses over a set window. A single line then tracks that balance, and most traders watch the 70 and 30 marks.

The Stochastic reads position instead of momentum. It asks where the close sits inside the recent high-low range. Two lines, the %K and the %D, plot that location, and the 80 and 20 marks flag the extremes.

Look at a concrete case. The chart shows EURUSD on the one-hour timeframe with a 14-period RSI above a Stochastic set to 14, 3, 3. Price pulls back near 1.14, the RSI eases toward 40, and the Stochastic dives under 20 far faster. That single frame captures the whole gap.
